Sarah Kleinhandler 

PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT

Sarah has 28 years serving in and supporting public education at New York City Public Schools. Before joining CSG, Sarah served as the Chief Enrollment Officer for New York City Public Schools. She led a central team and 12 field offices that increased access and equity to New York City admissions and enrollment services for schools and families, prioritized customer service, and streamlined operations to make the office more responsive to families. While serving in that role, Sarah was a member of the School Diversity Advisory Group, made up of academics, students, parents, and advocates appointed by Mayor Bill de Blasio to facilitate research and discussion of a number of key policy areas related to diversity.

Anchored in curriculum, instruction and school improvement, Sarah began her career as a classroom high school English teacher and has served as a High School administrator. Sarah led the implementation of best practices around reading and writing (K-12) for literacy coaches and was appointed as Regional Instruction Specialist for literacy in four New York City school districts. With this experience, she transitioned to lead New York City’s school improvement efforts for schools designated by New York State as not meeting standards. She led a new team in data analysis, plan creation, and implementation, side-by-side with the State Department of Education to ensure schools and students made progress.

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Boston University, Masters of Science in the Psychological Foundations of Reading from New York University and has an Advanced Degree in school building and District Leadership from Hunter College.
